Child trafficking and kidnapping have emerged as pressing concerns in Karachi. Recent incidents have heightened public anxiety, underscoring the need for immediate attention and action. Last month, seven-year-old Mohammed Sarim was reportedly abducted from North Karachi’s Sector 5. Following this, five-year-old Aliyan and six-year-old Ali Raza went missing from the Garden area. These cases have intensified fears among Karachi’s residents. Law enforcement agencies often face challenges in promptly registering First Information Reports (FIRs) for missing children, who tend to be from marginalised communities. Delays in filing FIRs can hinder timely investigations, reducing the chances of recovering abducted and/or missing children safely.
The escalating incidents of child trafficking and kidnapping in Karachi necessitate a multifaceted approach, including strengthening law enforcement, raising public awareness, and implementing robust child protection mechanisms. Collaborative efforts between government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and the community are essential to safeguard the city’s children.
