Three companies extract 2.6bn gallons of groundwater from Lahore

ISLAMABAD: Three companies in Pakistan have extracted a total of 2.6 billion gallons of groundwater from Lahore alone in the last five years. A report provided to parliament stated that partial data has been provided for Gujranwala and Multan, while no data has been provided for the rest of Punjab.
The report stated that according to details received from Gujranwala, a total of 1.195 billion gallons of groundwater was extracted by two companies during the last six years.
In Multan, a multinational company extracted 1.34 billion gallons of water from the ground in six years, while another company extracted 260 million gallons and the third one extracted 1.44 billion gallons.
