UBG demands recovery of abducted SWCCI president
Islamabad: The Patron-in-Chief of the United Business Group (UBG), SM Tanveer, Secretary-General Zafar Bakhtawari, and UBG Islamabad President Abdul Rauf Alam have strongly condemned the abduction of the President of the South Waziristan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SWCCI), Saif-ur-Rehman, along with two customs officials in South Waziristan. They termed the incident extremely alarming and dangerous for the country’s business environment and the trader community, says a press release.
In their joint statement, the UBG leaders stated that such incidents not only shake the confidence of the business community but also harm the national economy. They emphasized that economic stability in the country is impossible without ensuring the security of businesspersons.
S.M. Tanveer urged the government and security agencies to take immediate notice of the incident and ensure the safe and swift recovery of Saif-ur-Rehman and all abductees. He warned that if such incidents are not prevented, a growing sense of insecurity will further discourage investors and businesspersons.
Zafar Bakhtawari remarked that Pakistan is already facing economic challenges, and such incidents further hinder economic activities. He stressed the need for serious governmental measures to promote business development in regions like South Waziristan, ensuring the restoration of traders’ and investors’ confidence.
Abdul Rauf Alam stated that the business community and chamber leaders play a crucial role in economic progress, but if they themselves feel insecure, it will create obstacles in the country’s development. He urged the government to take immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future.
