Orientation on women empowerment mentorship programme
LAHORE:An orientation session on Women Empowerment Mentorship Program (WEMP) at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) was held under the supervision of Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Khalid Masud Gondal.
In the opening remarks, Prof Dr Khalid Masud Gondal addressed the session, emphasising the importance of the Mentorship Programme in promoting women's empowerment and mentorship in academia and research. He highlighted the pivotal role of NAHE and HEC in upgrading higher education in Pakistan.
The session was graced by the presence of Deans, Members of Mentorship Program Committee (MPC), Mentors and Mentees enrolled in WEMP at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU). Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir, Prof Dr Aliya Zahid, Prof Dr Shamila Ijaz Munir, Prof Dr Lubna Ameer, Prof Dr Farzana, Prof Dr Naghmana Latif, Prof Dr Aysha Rashid, Prof Dr Fauzia Ishaq and others attended.
The WEMP programme designed to empower women in academia and research comprised of five comprehensive modules. Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir provided mentorship on WEMP Module 1, focusing on ‘Mentoring in Higher Education.’ Her insightful guidance and expertise helped the participants to understand the significance of mentorship in higher education and its impact on career development. Dr Taskeen Zahra, as a focal person for WEMP, FJMU, highlighted the components and outline of programme.
LCWU holds orientation workshop
The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has launched Women Empowerment and Mentorship Programme (WEMP). LCWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Uzma Qureshi said that the purpose of this initiative was to empower women in academia and beyond.
The programme held an orientation workshop for mentors, led by Prof Dr Farzana Rashid, Chairperson of WEMP, with contributions from senior faculty members Dr Afifa Khanam and Dr Tahira Kalsoom. The workshop aimed to equip mentors with the skills and knowledge needed to guide young women effectively.
Topics included the importance of mentorship, challenges faced by women in various fields, and strategies to foster an inclusive environment. Prof Rashid emphasised the role of mentorship in bridging gaps and creating opportunities for career growth.
