Commissioner Rawalpindi focuses on Clean Punjab Programme, public relief measures
Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Amir Khattak, has directed all districts within the division to compile and submit lists of corrupt officers and officials from various departments, including the Revenue Department. He instructed the deputy commissioners to provide detailed reports on actions taken against such individuals within 24 hours.
The Commissioner emphasized that accountability is critical, stating that if any Patwari is found absent from their assigned Patwari Circle, the responsibility will rest with the concerned assistant commissioner.
Addressing a meeting of the Divisional Coordination Committee held yesterday, the Commissioner highlighted the importance of the Clean Punjab Programme. He instructed that solid waste control rooms be established in all tehsils. These control rooms must be equipped with solid waste officers, necessary machinery, human resources, and a clear action plan to achieve their targets. He also directed Assistant Commissioners to closely monitor the programme, ensuring adherence to prescribed SOPs.
To foster community ownership, the Commissioner stressed the inclusion of local residents and public representatives in the cleanliness initiatives. “Our first priority is to provide relief to the people,” he remarked. He urged Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners to regularly hold open courts to address public grievances promptly. Awareness banners about these open courts should be displayed at the offices of the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, and Assistant Commissioners to inform the public.
During the meeting, it was reported that over the last five months, the Deputy Commissioner of Chakwal had taken action against 25 officers and officials from the Revenue, Health, Education, and Municipal Corporation departments. Actions included suspension, surrendering, and proceedings under the PEDA Act. Similarly, in Murree, five individuals—two from the Revenue Department and three from the Municipal Corporation—were suspended for involvement in irregularities. The commissioner reiterated the administration's commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery across the division.
