Karachi
Senior leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Amir Khan while appearing before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday prayed to the judge to permit him leaving for abroad.
The court has reserved its ruling on the plea of Amir Khan for June 15.
The attorney for Khan took the plea before the court that his client’s visa to stay in Dubai would get expired if he would not stay in Dubai during a period of six months.
The attorney further said the entire family of Amir Khan was over staying in Dubai as his children were attending educational institutes over there.
The attorney argued that Amir Khan’s name was not put in the exit control list and it was fair to grant him permission to leave for abroad.
Earlier on June 23, 2015 the police had submitted a charge-sheet in ATC-II against Aamir Khan in a case of instigating terrorism and harbouring criminals.
The Pakistan Rangers had detained the MQM leader with dozens of other suspects for three months, following their arrest during a raid in and around the MQM party headquarters, Nine Zero, in Azizabad on March 11 last year.
After the passage of three months, he was booked for allegedly providing shelter to criminals and using them for terrorist activities.
The investigating officer (IO), Inspector Mohsin Hasan Zaidi, through a special public prosecutor of Rangers submitted the investigation report in court in which he presented charged-sheeted against Aamir Khan for allegedly instigating terrorism and harbouring criminals.
The IO had quoted six officials of Rangers and police as prosecution witnesses in the charge-sheet.
The paramilitary force had placed the MQM leader with around 60 others under a 90-day preventive detention after the raid and informed court that they had credible information about their alleged involvement in offences related to targeted killing and terrorism.
On June 4, the Rangers handed Aamir Khan over to the police after registering a case against him. On the following day, police got his one-week physical remand. On June 12, the court remanded the MQM leader in prison and asked the police to file an investigation report.
Shahid Hamid case
The same court also heard a case against another MQM activist Muhammad Minhaj Qazi alias Asad and issued non-bailable warrant of arrest against absconding accused in the Shahid Hamid murder case. The court fixed July 20 as next date of hearing.
Earlier, the attorney for Minhaj Qazi told the court that his client was a member of an educated family and he had not committed any heinous crimes.
Upon this, the judge remarked that it was astonishing that the man hailing of such an educated family was appearing in an ATC.
Minhaj Qazi said that since he had his affiliation with the MQM, he was being tried in such cases.
The attorney moved an application seeking ‘B class’ facility for Minhaj Qazi, arguing that he was an educated person.
The court did not pass any ruling on this issue and issued non-bailable warrants of arrest against Shehzad Mullah, Raees Mama, Naeem and Imran Ejaz Niazi, companions of accused Minhaj Qazi in the Shahid Hamid murder case.
A charge-sheet was presented by Investigation Officer (IO) Sarwar Cammando on Thursday against Minhaj Qazi before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in the murder of the then managing director of the then Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Shahid Hami.
According to the charge-sheet submitted in the ATC, the under detention accused claimed that Shahid Hamid was killed on the directives of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and another senior leader Nadeem Nusrat.
According to the charge sheet, a man, Sohail Zaidi, had assisted the killers by telling them the whereabouts and the route of travelling of Shahid Hamid.
It further said Minhaj Qazi, Rashid Akhtar and Akhtar alias Mehboob had opened fire.
Former security in-charge of MQM headquarters Nine Zero, Minhaj Qazi, was also showed an accused who occupied 23 acres of lands in Gulzar-e-Hijri Scheme 33.
The lands were granted to the Ahsanabad Society but the accused had occupied the same under the name of ‘Heaven City Project’ and those assisted him as accused, included Naeem Shamshad, Faisal Hashmi, Abbas Jaffery, Dr Gul Hassan Zaidi and Ilyas Sehgal, the charge sheet added.
It was also said another accused, Sharjeel Muhammad, said to be nephew of a London-based MQM leader, was also involved in land grabbing acts.
A police officer, Javed Abbas, was also alleged to have played a role as facilitator in lands occupation matters.
The Sindh Building Control Authority had issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the construction of project, but later cancelled the NOC, the charge sheet concluded.
