Solarisation of all prisons in Punjab approved

LAHORE: Punjab Home Department has approved a scheme to shift all prisons in the province to solar energy, a move expected to significantly reduce electricity costs and promote sustainable energy solutions.
According to details, a budget proposal of Rs2.3 billion has been prepared to install solar systems across Punjab's 44 jails. Currently, the annual electricity bill for these prisons amounts to Rs2 billion. The home department stated that transitioning to solar power will lead to substantial savings on energy costs, potentially saving billions of rupees in the coming years. Officials highlighted the initiative as a step towards addressing rising energy costs while ensuring uninterrupted power supply for prison facilities.
