A sudden power breakdown by K-Electric early on Monday morning halted operations at the Dhabeji and Gharo pumping stations of Karachi Water Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).

The KWSC, in a press statement, said that the power outage, which began at 5:30am, temporarily suspended the city's water supply. According to a K-Electric spokesperson, electricity at the Dhabeji pumping station was restored at 6:25am, after which water supply to Karachi resumed.

The disruption temporarily suspended Karachi's water supply, raising concerns about the city's reliance on critical infrastructure. Power outages at key pumping stations have historically caused water shortages in the city, further complicating its water management challenges.

The sudden breakdown underscores the importance of stable electricity provision for essential services. Residents urged the K-Electric to ensure uninterrupted power to critical facilities like pumping stations to avoid future disruptions.

Later, the KE said the electricity supply to the Dhabeji Pumping Station was timely restored. The minor disruption at the station was resolved, and the KE’s system remains stable, ensuring uninterrupted power delivery. According to a KE spokesperson, all major pumping stations of the KWSC, including Dhabeji, are exempt from loadshedding.

In emergency situations, alternative power sources are used to maintain supply. KE teams stay in constant communication with KWSC representatives and remain prepared to address any issues promptly.
