PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have recommended recruiting 400 policemen in Kurram to improve the law and order situation in the volatile district.
Kurram district has been facing a serious law and order situation for the last few weeks. As many as 132 people lost their lives while 185 have been injured since the barbaric attack on the passenger vehicles in the district on November 21.
Many families left their homes and shifted to other peaceful areas after several attacks.
Many jirgas have been convened recently to engage all the stakeholders and find a durable solution to various issues related to law and order in Kurram.
“I am directed to refer to your letter and to enclose herewith a copy of the letter of District Police Officer, Kurram regarding the recruitment of 400 ex-servicemen (including 350 constables and 50 head constables) for the protection of the main supply route for the current financial year 2024-25 and upcoming financial year 2025-26,” stated a letter by the deputy inspector general headquarters to the additional chief secretary Home.
It added the list of 400 ex-servicemen will be furnished to his office after approval and subsequent shortlisting by the Regional Police Officer, Kohat.
Additionally, it continued, the tenure of these 400 ex-servicemen will span the current financial year 2024-25 as well as 2025-26.
