Jirga convened for peace in Janikhel
BANNU: A jirga was convened in the Janikhel area of Bannu to ensure peace and make the people aware of the elements who wanted to disturb the serene environment there.
The gathering was arranged with the support of the army. In attendance were elders from Janikhel. The General Officer Commanding Kohat welcomed the participants. The elders told the army officials that they as a community wanted peace and stability in their area. They said the people of Janikhel had been suffering for a long and several families had for safer places due to disturbance.
Those at the jirga dispelled the impression that the people of Janikhel were not extending support to the law-enforcement agencies in maintaining peace. The elders condemned the attacks on the security forces and said they stood by the jawans.
They expressed concern over the displacement of the people during the operation and demanded the release of those picked up. The elders backed the steps being taken for the restoration of peace.The GOC laid stress on unity to restore peace in the area. He advised the people to keep an eye on those outsiders who were after the peace of the area.
