LAHORE:The Unesco’s Reactive Monitoring Mission continued its five-day visit to Lahore, focusing on the Lahore Fort and Shalamar Gardens.
On the second day, the Unesco delegation led by Kian Boon from ICOMOS, Ms Nao Hayashi from the World Heritage Centre, and Jawad Aziz from Unesco Pakistan, visited Lahore Fort and conducted an in-depth inspection of several conservation projects in the Fort and expressed satisfaction with the progress made in preserving the historical and architectural integrity of the Fort. The following day, the Unesco team visited Shalamar Gardens.
There the delegation examined both the physical conservation of the gardens and the surrounding environmental conditions in terms of the impact of the nearby Orange Line project on the site, with a particular focus on noise pollution from traffic and aircraft, which they experienced firsthand.
