ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Monday passed ‘The Capital University of Science and Technology Bill, 2015 amid protest and walkout from the house.
The legislation approved by the lower house of Parliament envisages the establishment of Capital University of Science and Technology in the private sector.Speaking on the private sector, the PPP parliamentarian Syed Naveed Qamar said they were given an opportunity to read the bill and give their input.
He said the government was doing good thing in a bad way adding that the opposition should not be used as a rubber stamp.“We are not against the legislation but we have just read the bill,” he said.Opposing the legislation in a haste, the opposition parties, including the PPP and PTI, walked out of the house.
The Capital University of Science and Technology would be a corporate body having principal seat in Islamabad and could establish its campuses, institutions, colleges, research centers etc. in other parts of the country with the approval of the Board of Governor.
The statement of objectives and reasons of the bill say that Mohammad Ali Jinnah Trust had proposed establishment of the university in Islamabad.Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaik Aftab laid two ordinances — the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Ordinance, 2015 and the Cantonment Ordinance, 2015 — before the house.
The National Assembly would also take up the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess Act, 2014 for approval of the house on Tuesday (today).The house also passed a resolution to suspend the private members day agenda on Tuesday to take up government’s business.
