KARACHI: Hyderabad Police has arrested a police officer and three policemen for illegally apprehending, keeping two citizens in illegal custody, and releasing them after extorting huge amounts of money.
According to the FIR registered in the Cantonment Police Station, Hyderabad two citizens Saleh alias Jawad Memon and Atiq Soomro were illegally detained by a sub-inspector, three police officials, and two private persons on October 30, 2024.
The two persons were illegally detained in a private guest house in Hyderabad and were released the next day.
Sub-inspector Waheed Panhwar, constables Zohaib and Mehmood Gujjar all belong to Hyderabad Police and a private person Qazi Ghulam Mustafa who was allegedly involved in the incident of kidnapping of citizens has been arrested after registration of the case against them.
All three said police officials including a sub-inspector and two private persons have been named in the First Information Report (FIR) 129/2024 registered in the complaint of SHO of Cantonment Police Station Imran Rasheed.
As per the local sources, the illegally detained persons belong to the Nushero-Feroze district. The policemen picked them up, accusing them of involvement in illegal business of bookkeeping, from Gari Khata, downtown of Hyderabad.
Police kept them in a private guest house and released them after receiving Rs1.9 million from them.
After release; both victims approached the police high-ups who, after verification of their complaint, ordered registration of a criminal case against the accused police officials and their associates.
