Sindh has kingship, not democracy, says CJP
ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, observed on Wednesday that there was no democracy in Sindh but kingship.
The chief justice made this observation during the hearing of a petition in the Supreme Court on the deputation of officials in the Sindh government.The chief justice said there was no sign of good governance in Sindh. He asked how good governance will come if promotions were done on the basis of likes and dislikes. He said for the last seven years, there were difficulties in implementation of court verdicts on Sindh.
The court expressed concern at the chief minister of Sindh for not following the orders of the judiciary. “How can good governance be ensured if promotions are made on the basis of likes and dislikes?” the chief justice observed.
“How can a government servant of Grade-I reach Grade-16?” Justice Amir Hani Muslim, another member of the SC bench hearing the petition, observed.Chief Justice Jamali remarked that in order to compensate one person, rights of 15 others were dishonoured. He remarked that the government should rather issue agovernment should rather issue a statement that the chief minister was not bound to obey the orders of the court. “Is the chief minister not bound to obey the law,” he questioned.
The court summoned the names of the officers from chief secretary Sindh in one week time who are putting hurdle in the way of the implementation of the court orders. The court said contempt proceedings will be initiated against the responsible officials after Ramazan. -- Sabah
