‘Clean air programme aims to enhance environmental health’
LAHORE:Proposed Punjab Clean Air Programme aims to enhance environmental health and improve quality of life for citizens, said Secretary, Planning and Development (P&D) Board, Dr Asif Tufail at the 19th meeting of the Provincial External Financing Assessment Committee (PEFAC) held at the P&D Board to discuss the proposed ‘Punjab Clean Air Programme’.
Secretary of the Planning and Development Board Dr Asif Tufail chaired the meeting. The committee deliberated on the concept proposal for the ‘Punjab Clean Air Program,’ which is to be funded by the World Bank.
During the meeting, representatives from the Transport Department, Environment Department, Punjab Small Industries Corporation, Energy Department and others concerned provided valuable insights into the programme’s objectives and potential impact. Secretary P&D Board Dr Asif Tufail emphasised the need for an integrated approach to tackle air pollution, stating, ‘This programme aims to enhance environmental health and improve the quality of life for our citizens. ‘It is essential that we align our efforts with international standards and local needs. The committee reviewed the preliminary framework of the programme, which aims to implement sustainable practices in transport and industry, alongside public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on air quality issues. ‘The PEFAC will continue to assess and refine the proposal, ensuring that it meets the developmental needs of Punjab while adhering to environmental sustainability’.
