LAHORE

The biggest education event of the country by Jang Media Group—The News Education Expo’16 started at the Faletti’s Hotel here on Monday and attracted thousands of students on the first day. The representatives of participating universities, institutes and consultancy firms provided on the spot free-of-cost information to the visitors under one roof.

“The News Education Expo is really a good idea. This not only saves prospective students from unnecessary hassle of visiting each institute for admission related information but also saves time and money”, commented a student Saman Zahra. According to her, she had a wonderful opportunity to explore academic programmes, fee structures and scholarship opportunities offered by the participating institutes.

On the sideline of the expo, a highly informative session by acclaimed educationist and career counsellor Syed Abidi was also held.

Many visiting students and parents of the students especially attended this interactive session to know emerging study areas, foreign qualifications and local and foreign scholarship opportunities. Through a presentation, Syed Abidi also informed the participants about emerging study areas in the wake of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which he said would prove to be a game-changer.

Talking to The News, Rear Admiral (r) Shahid Saeed said Bahria University, a federally chartered university, was founded in the year 2000 and made rapid progress over the years introducing demand driven degree programmes.

“Since the key role of a university is to create new knowledge, Bahria University is now focusing on research in order to play a role in solving the real world problems”, he said and added “We are also developing academia-industry linkages.” He further said character building of the students and making them well-rounded and responsible individuals would remain priority of the Bahria University. About the Punjab Group of Colleges, Prof Haleema said her institute had become a premier seat of learning offering academic programmes in wide ranging subjects and offering scholarships to talents and exceptional students. “We offer special seats to students in three different categories i.e. based on academic performance of students, while we also offer talent based and sports based scholarships to students”, she said. These scholarships provide 30 percent up to 100 percent fee waiver to the students, she added.
