Three candidates selected for ICCBS director’s post
For the first time in the history of University of Karachi, a selection board was held for the selection of permanent director of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) and the HEJ, University of Karachi, in which three candidates were selected.
The choice has been made. In the meeting presided over by Karachi University Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, eight candidates were interviewed, while two candidates -- Prof Farzana Shaheen and Prof Shabana Samji -- gave a legal notice to the selection board by their lawyer saying that this selection board was not legal and both the female candidates left without giving an interview.
However, the selection board continued its action and selected the names of three candidates, one of whom belongs to the ICCBS. Among the members who participated in the selection board were Shoaib Siddiqui, Dean Sciences Dr Musrat Jahan Yusuf, Nadira Panjwani, Aziz Jamal, Dr Muhammad Ashraf, and Dr Shahid Parvez. According to sources, these three names will go to the Executive Board of the ICCBS where the final candidate will be selected. After 66 years, the selection board has been held in the HEJ and ICCBS. During these years, only three candidates were appointed permanent directors — Dr Salim-ul-Zaman Siddiqui, Dr Atta-ul-Rehman and Dr Iqbal Chaudhry.
