This letter refers to the news story ‘England crush Pakistan by innings, 47 runs in commanding Test victory’ (October 11, 2024). It is baffling how a test match that saw over 500 runs scored in the first innings and over 800 runs in the second innings still delivered a result on the fifth day.
The Pakistan team made a mess of a game that should have ended in a draw and their ability to close games out appears to be declining. Test cricket requires temperament, resilience and, above all, patience. It seems our players lose their patience and are in some kind of hurry. This has to change.
