LAHORE:Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Muzaffar Khan approved 13 sport schemes while chairing a Departmental Development Scrutiny Committee meeting at the Punjab Stadium on Tuesday.
Among the approved schemes, a significant highlight was the announcement of a sports complex to be constructed in the village of Olympic star Arshad Nadeem, 101/115, at Mian Channu. This project, estimated to cost Rs52million, aims to foster sports development in the area where the renowned athlete hails.
Additionally, the Punjab International Swimming Complex is set to undergo a comprehensive upgrade. This initiative will enhance the facilities and infrastructure of the swimming complex, providing athletes with improved training conditions.
Another notable project approved in the meeting was the completion of the modern squash complex in phase 2. This complex, costing Rs499 million, will feature six courts and have a seating capacity of 700 people. The squash complex will contribute to the development and promotion of squash in the province.
The secretary emphasised the commitment of the Punjab government to promoting sports culture throughout the province. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to restore old sports schemes and construct new ones under the Punjab Chief Minister's 'Khelta Punjab' initiative
