‘Multiple sclerosis on the rise in Pakistan’

Dr Shahid Mukhtar, assistant professor of neurology, Lahore General Hospital (LGH), has said that multiple sclerosis is on the rise in Pakistan and its patients can get rid of this medical complication by taking regular treatment.

In a press release on the occasion of World Multiple Sclerosis Day, Dr Shahid said patients of multiple sclerosis could suddenly lose their sight or face legs paralysis while they could also fall prey to mental disability. He said such patients generally did not approach some neuro-physician neither they went for MRI or CSF tests which was basic requirement to diagnose this disease.

Talking in connection with World Multiple Sclerosis Day, the pioneer of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) therapy in Pakistan, Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and LGH Prof Khalid Mahmood said a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. He said numerous diseases like headache, weak memory, mental sickness, stress and strain, anxiety, phobias and various complexes were actually psychological disorders in human bodies. When these symptoms are ignored, they gradually develop into physical complications for such patients, he said, adding that these diseases could be controlled by serious treatment to them and such people could also live a normal life. 

He offered all kind of tests and treatments to the patients of multiple sclerosis in the hospital's Neurology Department and said the attendants of such patients ought to bring their patients to the hospital for immediate checkup and treatment.
