Office-bearers in Torghar quit PMLN
MANSEHRA: The member of central and provincial councils and district president and general secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in Torghar on Wednesday resigned from the party’s basic membership and all offices.
“I am quitting the party heavy-heartedly as Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar has not been taking us into confidence in running the affairs of the party,” Taimurullah Khan, district president of the party, told reporters here. District general secretary of the party, Zahir Shah, also announced to quit the PMLN.
Taimurullah Khan said that he and other officer-bearers had opposed the fielding of the party’s supreme leader Nawaz Sharif from Torghar on February 8, 2024 general elections. “This is a Pashtun belt and our politics is indifferent than that of other settled districts in the province but the inflexible stance exhibited by Captain Safdar caused a huge loss to PMLN,” he added.
Taimurullah Khan said that Captain Safdar and his elder brother Muhammad Sajjad Awan had won from NA-15 in the 2013 and 2018 general elections, respectively, but mostly because of Mansehra’s vote.
