LHC accepts plea against detention of Adiala jail deputy superintendent
Secret agencies unlawfully detained her husband from their residence in the Officers Colony of the jail
RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC), Rawalpindi Bench, led by Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi, has accepted the petition filed against the detention of Deputy Superintendent of Adiala jail, Rawalpindi, Muhammad Akram. The petition was filed by Muhammad Akram’s wife on Friday.
During the initial hearing, the court issued a notice to the Saddar Baruni Police Station and directed it to respond by August 20. Maimona Riaz, the wife of Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram, filed the petition, naming the Punjab home secretary, defence secretary, superintendent of jail, Punjab IGP and SHO of the Saddar Baruni Police Station as parties.
In the petition, it was argued that on the early morning of August 14, secret agencies unlawfully detained her husband from their residence in the Officers Colony of the jail. Despite a request on August 15 to the police concerned to register a case, the police neither provided information nor registered the case.
The petition claims that her husband’s basic constitutional rights were violated, despite him being innocent of any crime. Citing articles 10 and 10A of the Constitution, the petition argues for a fair trial and an opportunity for the petitioner’s husband to defend himself, which has not yet been provided. The petition requests that the court admit the petition for hearing, order the police to register a case of illegal detention, and allow the petitioner and her children to meet her husband. The petition also seeks an order for the parties to provide all reasons for the detention.
