Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday inspected the S-III Sewage Treatment Plant in Mauripur. Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) Chief Executive Officer Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief Operating Officer Engineer Asadullah Khan, S-III project director Nizamuddin Shaikh, spokesman for the mayor on political affairs Karamullah Waqasi, Keamari Town Chairman Humayun Khan, MPA Asif Khan, and project managers Shiraz Shaikh, Waseem Akhtar Shaikh and Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh were also present on the occasion.
According to a spokesperson for the KWSC, the top officials inspected the inlet, outlet, overflow, discharge, screening system and pumping during the visit.
Wahab also inaugurated the pilot duckweed aquaculture project. The S-III project director as well as Dr Bashir Lakhani and Rakesh Sundar gave a briefing on the project to the mayor.
Wahab said the pilot duckweed aquaculture project could produce by-products, including protein and biodiesel. He termed the S-III project an essential need of the city and called for its urgent completion.
The mayor issued directives to the relevant authorities to take decisive actions to expedite the project. He urged the authorities to utilise all available resources to ensure timely completion of the project so that the treated water could be made available for industries. Additionally, he mentioned that he would engage with the Sindh government to secure the necessary funding for the project.
He also commended the KWSC’s management for their efforts on the S-III project. During the visit, the mayor also unfurled the national flag at the treatment plant to mark Independence Day.
