Youth urged to emulate national heroes
PESHAWAR: Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi on Wednesday called for upholding fundamental rights as he believed the country was witnessing the opposite.
Addressing a gathering to celebrate the 77th Independence Day of Pakistan at the University of Peshawar (UoP), he said that people from all walks of life should tread the path of flexibility. “Every individual from the prime minister to the peon must play extinguish the fire engulfing us,” he stressed.
He added that this unique day gave us a chance to recall the services, sacrifices and sufferings of our national heroes for winning us a free country because it was impossible for us to realize freedom without going through slavery and oppression.
He stressed the young generation to emulate national heroes like Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and national poet Allama Mohammad Iqbal. Earlier, UoP Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Qazi vowed to steer the university to new heights of development and progress despite challenges.
Prof Dr Hussain Shaheed Soherwardi called upon political leaders to express their political views politely and avoid confrontation. He requested the higher education minister to bring interprovincial exchange visit programmess along with self-business start-up and e-commerce opportunities for the youth.
Later, the minister planted a sapling at the main lawn of the university.A documentary was also screened on university and the migration during the Partition.Meanwhile, a function was held at the Khyber Medical University (KMU) to celebrate the Independence Day of our beloved homeland. The day was marked by hoisting the national flag.KMU Director Academics Dr. Zille Huma, faculty members and students participated in the celebrations.
