PESHAWAR: Urging the government to confront the prevailing challenges head-on to steer the country out of the morass, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Sunday said Pakistan was faced with economic and political instability at present.
He said this while speaking at a meeting of the QWP Peshawar chapter office-bearers at Watan Kor here. The meeting discussed the party’s organizational affairs and the efforts to strengthen QWP at the grassroots.
Commenting on the economic situation, Sikandar Sherpao said the people were facing soaring inflation and unemployment, asking the government to take steps to overcome the challenges facing the country.
He said the government must work hard to stabilize the economy to provide relief to people in the face of skyrocketing inflation.
The QWP leader said before the 2024 general election, the people were expecting that the polls would help bring economic and political stability, but that did not happen. He alleged that the 2024 polls proved to be worse rigged than the 2018 elections.
Sikandar Sherpao said it seemed the government had no strategy to tackle the issue of inflation and it was burdening the people with more taxes in line with the demands of the International Monetary Fund. He said the country’s external debt kept on going up, but the rulers were least bothered to adopt austerity measures, adding the government was paying lip service to the problems being faced by the have-nots.
Expressing concern over the poor law and order, Sikandar Sherpao said the security situation had deteriorated to an alarming level. He said the incidents of target killings of the police and extortion were on the rise. He urged the government to take steps to improve the law and order or else the situation could spin out of control.
