REAP and TDAP celebrate $4bn export milestone
KARACHI: The Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), in collaboration with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), celebrated a significant achievement of reaching $4 billion in rice exports with an event titled ‘FOUR -- The Quadra Legacy’ at the historic Mohatta Palace.
A press release on Saturday said the celebration not only honoured the success of Pakistan’s rice export industry but also paid tribute to the rich heritage and symbolism of the number ‘four’ in Islamic architecture.
The event featured eco-friendly practices, including zero-waste initiatives; the use of recyclable and compostable materials; renewable energy sources; and informative displays on sustainability. The concept of ‘chaar bagh’ (four gardens), representing the four elements of nature -- earth, air, water, and fire -- was creatively incorporated into the event. Highlights included an exclusive performance by the legendary Shafqat Amanat Ali, along with Khumariyaan and Lenny Massey, celebrating Pakistan’s cultural heritage. Chela Ram Kewlani, chairman of REAP, was proud of this achievement and said, “Our journey to achieving $4 billion in rice exports is a story of perseverance and vision. We look forward to pushing this achievement to $6 billion in the coming months.”
The event also emphasized partnerships with local organizations such as Paani, Trash-it, and Good Karma, focusing on recycling, reusing through donations, and tree plantations. Additionally, REAP and The Quadra Legacy management pledged to support the mangrove plantation project to balance the event’s carbon footprint, further enhancing its sustainable ethos.
