President signs Election (Second Amendment) Bill 2024
However, sources in the Senate said they had received the assent from the Presidency
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Election (Second Amendment) Bill 2024, after which it has now been enacted into law as Election (Second Amendment) Act 2024.
Though the sources claimed that President Asif Ali Zardari gave assent to the Election Act Amendment Bill 2024, no official word has come from the Presidency. However, sources in the Senate said they had received the assent from the Presidency.
It should be noted that on August 6, the Election Act Amendment Bill was passed by a majority vote in the National Assembly and later on the same day by the Senate with a majority vote amid noise and commotion by the opposition. The bill was jointly presented by Muslim League-Nawaz Bilal Azhar Kayani and Zeib Jafar, the bill to amend the Election Act 2017 was approved by the National Assembly as a private member bill.
