Funeral prayers for policeman martyred in FB Area offered
The funeral prayers for Constable Shabbir Ahmed, who was martyred in firing by unidentified assailants in District Central on Wednesday, were offered at the West Police office on Thursday.
Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon, Karachi additional IG, West DIG and other senior police officers attended the funeral prayers along with the martyred cop's heirs and relatives.
The IGP said on the occasion that the culprits involved in the incident would be brought to justice. The entire Sindh police stood in solidarity with the heirs of the martyred constable, he added.
According to a spokesperson for the Karachi police, a meeting on the targeted killings of policemen in Karachi was held at the Karachi Police Office. Zonal DIGs, CIA DIG, SSPs and other senior police officers participated in the meeting that was headed by Karachi Additional IG Javed Alam Odho.
The participants discussed the current situation of law and order in the meeting. High-profile cases, especially the reasons behind police killings and the progress in their investigations, were reviewed in detail individually.
The Karachi police chief issued orders to prepare a comprehensive strategy to curb crime in the city and accelerate police action against criminal elements. Meanwhile, the police registered a case against unknown suspects over Wednesday’s killing of the constable who was targeted in the Jauharabad area of Federal B Area.
While placing the section of the mugging, police also included the Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act in the FIR that was registered at the Jauharabad police station. Constable Shabbir was the third cop to have been gunned down in District Central within a month. He died after an unidentified suspect opened fire on him near the UBL Sports Complex on Rashid Minhas Road within the jurisdiction of the Jauharabad police.
The victim was hit by multiple bullets in his legs, arms and chest. The wounded policeman was first taken by a rickshaw driver to a hospital nearby from where he was shifted to a private hospital on National Stadium Road where he succumbed to his injuries.
Six policemen have so far been killed in Karachi in 2024. Three of them, including the Counter-Terrorism Department’s DSP Ali Raza, were martyred in District Central within a month.
