PARIS: The People’s Republic of China booked their spot in the women’s hockey final against The Netherlands defeating Belgium in a penalty shoot-out.
The Belgians had equalised in the last minute of regulation time to make it 1-1, and taken a 2-0 lead in the shoot-out but eventually fell 2-3 to China. Belgium will play Argentina for the bronze.
Meanwhile, Poland reached their first men’s volleyball gold medal match since 1976 after beating the USA 3-2. That was despite their libero, Pawel Zatorski, suffering an injury in the third set with no replacement available. They will face hosts France in the final after the defending champions beat Italy 3-0 in the other semi-final.
