The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (KWSC) pumping station at Dhabeji was shut down on Sunday due to a sudden power breakdown.
A spokesperson for the KWSC said a sudden power breakdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station due to a cable fault and technical malfunction caused by the K-Electric (KE) caused the shutdown of its Phase 3.
When the K-Electric (KE) managed to restore Phase 3 of the Dhabeji Pumping Station, the Phase 4 suddenly malfunctioned. Even after both phases were fully restored, a changeover by the KE led to another unexpected power breakdown, the KWSC said.
The spokesperson noted that the cable fault and breakdown affected the 72-inch MS Line No 5. Upon receiving the information about the affected line, water corporation officials inspected the site and KWSC Chief Executive Officer Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed directed the relevant officers to urgently complete the restoration work to prevent any inconvenience for citizens.
According to the chief engineer of the water corporation, the repair work on the affected line will be completed within the next 24 hours, although challenges may arise due to rain. Meanwhile, the city continues to receive water supply through alternative lines.
