Weather in Karachi became pleasant as some parts of the city received moderate rain in the early hours of Thursday and later in the afternoon.

Rainfall was reported in various areas, including MT Khan Road, Sultanabad Hijrat Colony in District Keamari, various parts of Sharea Faisal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Safoora Goth, Hassan Square, Saddar, II Chundrigar Road and MA Jinnah Road.

The heaviest rainfall was recorded at 13 millimetres at Defence Housing Authority Phase II, whereas 11.1 millimetres of rainfall was recorded at the Old Airport.

Karachi Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad visited various areas of the city on Thursday to inspect cleanliness and sanitation efforts after the rainfall. He claimed that every possible effort was being made to protect the citizens of Karachi from difficulties during the rainy season.

"We will take necessary steps to improve the city," he said. "Thanks to the interest and efforts of the chief minister of Sindh, the cleanliness situation in different districts of Karachi is better despite the rains."

The deputy mayor also presided over a meeting on Thursday to review the post-rain situation in the city. The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the CM Waqar Mehdi, the deputy commissioners of West and Keamari districts, town chairpersons and other officials, including those of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB).

The meeting discussed various issues related to the drainage of rainwater and cleanliness in District West and District Keamari and reviewed steps being taken to address those issues. On the instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the deputy mayor and Mehdi toured various areas of the city to assess the post-rain situation. The areas they visited included Qasba Mor, Aligarh Mor, Metroville, Hub River Road, Baldia Town and Mawach Goth. The deputy mayor said that despite continuous rain since the previous night, major roads in Karachi, including those in Clifton Block One and Boat Basin, Sharea Faisal, and various underpasses were clear. "Citizens can travel with peace of mind," he remarked. "Criticism is the job of the opposition; we will continue our service."

Meanwhile, teams of the KMC, KWSC, and SSWMB remained on alert. Suction pumps and necessary machinery had been deployed on major roads and underpasses. Officials of municipal agencies carried out inspections in some low-lying areas of the city from where complaints had been received regarding accumulated rainwater.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that moderate to torrential rains are likely to lash Karachi from August 3 till 5. The Met Office also mentioned that drizzle and light rain were possible in the port city on Friday (today).

In a statement, the K-Electric (KE) said the power supply to the city had been normalised and the KE network was stable. The power utility said its field teams were alert and active on the ground to address localised faults. The areas where faults were restored included Korangi Sector 50-C, NC-25, 35-A, 35-B and 35-D Zaman Town, Sharea Faisal, Manghopir Industrial Area, Qasba, Metroville, Ilyas Goth, Chashma Goth and Ali Brohi Goth. “KE's social media platform and KE live app are available 24/7 to facilitate customers,” said the KE.
