SC dismisses as withdrawn bail plea of accused nominated in 99 cases
Justice Malik Shahzad observed that accused seems to be an honest person who secured bail in 98 cases adding that usually one does not get bail in a single case
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed as withdrawn the bail application of an accused nominated in some 99 cases.
A two-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel and Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan heard the bail application of accused Muhammad Sajid who has been nominated in 99 cases. The police informed the court that the accused was caught red-handed while selling hashish.
Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel asked if any buyer had given a statement against the accused at which the police submitted that the accused was arrested on the information of an informer. The counsel also told the court that the accused is disabled in one leg. Prosecutor Punjab made a surprising revelation that the accused is nominated in 99 cases. How is this possible? Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel expressed surprise over the information. The prosecutor told the court that it is the 99th case against the accused at which Justice Mandokhel observed that a lot of time will be required for his arrest and bail in so many cases.
Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan observed that the accused seems to be an honest person who secured bail in 98 cases adding that usually one does not get bail in a single case. Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel asked the accused counsel if it was a fact that there were 99 cases against him. The counsel replied that there were cases of theft against the accused but this is the first case of drug against him. At this Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan observed that the accused has now also become a drug dealer. The police told the court that the rickshaw on which the accused was caught with drugs was also a stolen, adding that the accused was caught while selling the drugs in a shopping bag. A case was registered against the accused in Lahore Ravi Road police station on March 12, 2024. “What a brave man holding hashish in a shopper bag and selling it”, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel observed. The police told the court that the accused is identified in most cases due to his lame leg. Meanwhile, the court dismissed as withdrawn the bail application of the accused.
