Shun Constitution if public sentiments make basis of verdicts: Irfan Siddiqui
Siddiqui questions status and importance of Constitution after Supreme Court decision in reserved seats case
ISLAMABAD: Senator Irfan Siddiqui, the parliamentary party leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) in the Senate and Chairman Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Senate, questioned the status and importance of the Constitution after the Supreme Court decision in the reserved seats case.
In his reaction on social media platform ‘X’ on Friday, he wrote, “After today’s decision, the biggest question arising is, whether the written constitution of Pakistan has any status or importance left in terms of law and justice.”
He said if decisions were to be made on the basis of public sentiment, general speculation and panchayat justice by ignoring the blunt provisions of the constitution and the oath taken under it, under any theory of necessity or theory of convenience, then the constitution should be dismissed.
