Razzaq rejects allegations
LAHORE: Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has denied allegations of favouritism in the selection process following his removal from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee. The PCB announced the changes after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where the team failed to progress beyond the group stage.
The PCB confirmed the dismissal of Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz in an official statement on Wednesday: Both Razzaq and Riaz have been accused of insisting on selecting players who were not in form or fully fit. Additionally, it was alleged that Wahab, in his capacity as senior team manager, ignored uncooperative and bad behavior from pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi during the T20 World Cup.
Razzaq took to the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to address these allegations: “If all were given equal power, how can one vote overpower the other 6 in the selection committee ??” Razzaq questioned. “So how can I sway the other selectors while selecting the team?” Razzaq added.
