PCB plans new strategy for district level players’ development
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a strategic plan aimed at enhancing player skills at the district level. The PCB Domestic Cricket Department revealed a selection policy for upcoming district cricket tournaments.
Under this policy, the district and zonal presidents will lead the selection committees, with district coaches participating alongside. The regional heads will oversee the selection process. Players with below-par performances in last year’s first-class cricket will be considered for district teams. Additionally, the top three bowlers and batsmen from each district team’s previous season will be directly selected. The remaining spots will be filled based on performances in the PCB Challenge Cup. The PCB plans to conduct extensive training camps for shortlisted players, with each camp accommodating 22 players:3 openers, 6 middle-order batsmen, 5 fast bowlers, 2 wicketkeepers, and 2 all-rounders.
Following the camps, a final 15-member team will be selected from each district. It will be mandatory for all district and regional team players to pass a fitness test to qualify for selection. Failure to pass the test will result in exclusion from selection at any level.
