Pakistan test-fires 1,300-km range ballistic Ghauri missile

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan on Wednesday successfully conducted the training launch of the Ghauri Missile System.The Ghauri Ballistic Missile can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads up to a distance of 1,300 kilometres, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. The launch, conducted by a Strategic Missile Group of the Army Strategic Forces Command, was aimed at testing the operational and technical readiness of the Army Strategic Forces Command.
The successful launch was witnessed by senior officers from the Strategic Plans Division (SPD), strategic forces, scientists and engineers of strategic organisations.
Congratulating the scientists, engineers and all ranks of Strategic Forces, Lieutenant General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, who recently took over as Director General SPD, expressed his full satisfaction over the excellent standards achieved by the Strategic Forces during training, which were duly reflected by the proficient handling of the weapon system in the field and fulfilment of all laid down operational and technical objectives.
He emphasised that Pakistan could be justifiably proud of its defence capability and the credibility of its nuclear deterrence. Agencies add: President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif congratulated the scientists and engineers of strategic forces on successfully conducting the training launch of the Ghauri Missile System.
