Wind energy

We have a 60 kilometre wide (Gharo-Keti Bunder) and 180 kilometre long wind corridor that stretches up to Hyderabad. This is a natural source of generating wind energy. This corridor can produce 50,000MW of electricity. There are two options: either to import or manufacture windmill turbines locally. The second option demands setting up windmill turbine plants in Pakistan.

According to media reports, the Fata Development Authority has started a water supply scheme in Mohmand Agency by using wind energy. There is a dire need to build more wind energy parks where continuous wind at the rate of three meters per second is available to fulfil our irrigation needs. This scheme can inspire other provinces to follow the same strategy. Foreign expertise can also be acquired in setting up facilities in the country. I suggest that this project be undertaken by the Heavy Mechanical Complex or any similar entity in the country. The consolidated demand of all provinces can further reduce the cost factor. The Alternate Energy Development Board (AEDB) can also contribute towards making the FDA scheme a success as it possesses the expertise on the 50MW Ghimpir Park in Sindh. The option of the solar tubewells should also be explored to meet the irrigation needs in Sindh.
