PESHAWAR: The Second Sports Gala was arranged at the University of Peshawar to provide a healthy platform for the youth of merged areas to showcase their sports skills while simultaneously educating them about their land ownership and transfer rights.
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) Land Registration in Merged Areas (LRMA) organsied the activity.
“The event has provided us with an opportunity to reach out to the Merged Areas youth collectively to educate them about the importance of land registration and transparency of land titles in these areas,” stated Hafiz Atta-ul-Munim, secretary of the KP Board of Revenue.
He stated that the lack of verifiable land registration often led to land disputes and sometimes resulted in violent incidents due to unclear land ownership.
The 5-day gala featured youth from Darra Adamkhel competing in football, cricket, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis.
The event saw participation from many government representatives and more than 200 youth, university students, academics, and media personnel.
Muhammad Shoaib from the USAID LRMA Activity, said: “Building trust, raising awareness, and promoting collaboration between the state and its citizens are crucial for sustainable land governance and community development. We are proud to support the KP government in educating its people.”
Following the sports events, there will be over 20 awareness-raising sessions aimed at educating the youth and the broader community in the merged areas about the benefits and processes of land registration.
