Demand to act against low-quality sweets, potato chips
MARDAN: Residents have called for action to stop the sale of low-quality sweets and potato chips as these are causing stomach-related problems and other diseases in children.
They alleged that unregistered traders had set up small factories, particularly in the city, producing unhygienic food items such as crisps, chips, and low-quality sweets without any
oversight.
These items, primarily consumed by children aged 4 to 12, are causing stomach-related diseases.
Doctors in children’s hospitals have even
diagnosed minors with
diabetes due to the
consumption of these low-quality sweets containing fake sugar and sugar substitutes.
A resident, Mian Gul Bacha, said his child suffered from stomach pain and was taken to a doctor, who prohibited him from consuming such low-quality sweets, crisps, and other items.
These items are sold openly in markets and streets, making them easily accessible to children.
Another resident,
Noor Mohammad, criticised departments concerned
for failing to take action against these harmful
products.
