Deadly persecution

It saddens me to share the tragic news of the passing of Nazir Masih, who fell victim to an abhorrent act of violence and brutality in Sargodha’s Mujahid Colony. The circumstances surrounding Nazir’s death highlight a grave injustice that demands our collective condemnation. This incident is part of a disturbing pattern where minority communities in Pakistan are frequently targeted over baseless accusations. Such acts of violence and persecution have become alarmingly common, raising serious safety concerns for these vulnerable groups. The pervasive atmosphere of fear and insecurity affects not just individuals, but entire communities, casting a shadow over their daily lives and futures.

While there have been assurances and sporadic actions from the government, there remains a significant gap in the implementation of comprehensive protective measures and the enforcement of laws to safeguard minority rights. In some cases, the failure to hold perpetrators accountable has only emboldened those who seek to incite communal hatred. As a result, many within the minority communities are deeply anxious about the future of their children in Pakistan. In the face of this tragedy, swift and decisive action must be taken to ensure justice for Nazir Masih and to prevent such atrocities from recurring.
