Deserving students awarded scholarships

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Wednesday distributed scholarship certificates to 65 deserving and talented students for graduate and undergraduate programmes under the Chief Minister’s Education Endowment Fund.

Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan, Member National Assembly Shahid Khan Khattak, officials from the Higher Education Department and others attended the ceremony.

The students were informed that the fund was launched in 2014 with seed money of Rs 940 million, under which, a total of 444 scholarships worth Rs 546.47 million had been awarded to date.

As many as 107 graduate scholarships with the cost of Rs. 47 million and 327 undergraduate scholarships worth Rs 302 million, were awarded in the approved leading national institutes.Similarly, three MS and seven PhD scholarships worth Rs 197.47 million, have been awarded in the world’s universities.

The chief minister congratulated the students for winning scholarship certificates and hoped that they would move forward with more dedication and hard work and play their roles well. He announced an increase in the seed money of the endowment fund from Rs 940 million to Rs 2.00 billion aimed at awarding more scholarships as well as supporting the orphan students in the province.

Gandapur also announced to allocate funds in the upcoming provincial budget for supporting the talented students who were interested in studying abroad, but were unable to afford it due to their poor financial conditions.
