Narcotics worth Rs 320m seized in Khyber
LANDIKOTAL: The Customs and Frontier Corps (North) on Tuesday seized drugs in the Khyber district worth Rs320 million. Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Amanat Khan said that arms were also recovered from the arrested persons.
He said intelligence reports indicated that a large quantity of drugs and weapons would be smuggled from Afghanistan into Pakistan through the remote Tirah valley in the Khyber district.
Director Customs Intelligence Peshawar, Shafqat Ali Khan, shared all relevant details with FC (North) officials in the Khyber district, he said, adding the Customs Intelligence and FC personnel set up secret checkpoints in various areas of the Tirah valley, close to the Afghan border.
Two suspects, disguised as labourers, were arrested while trying to smuggle drugs, he added. As many as 300 kilograms of hashish, 2.5 kilograms of opium and arms were seized.The suspects were charged and the seized drugs were transferred to Customs House in Peshawar.
According to Customs officials, the value of the seized drugs in the international market was Rs320 million while the cost of the seized weapons was yet to be determined.It is noteworthy that Customs Intelligence in collaboration with FC North had seized drugs worth Rs300 million in the Khyber district on April 8.
