Martyred cop laid to rest

PESHAWAR: An assistant sub-inspector, who was martyred in a late night attack on Monday, was laid to rest on Tuesday.

Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan, Capital City Police Officer Ashfaq Anwar and other senior police officials attended the funeral prayer of the fallen hero Assistant Sub-Inspector Maroof Shah at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.

The IGP paid tributes to the martyrs and said the entire nation was indebted to those who sacrificed their lives for the country. He was martyred in the Sheikh Muhammadi area in the limits of Badaber Police Station while returning from Taraveeh. An official said ASI Maroof Shah sustained critical injuries when he was attacked by armed men.

The cop was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Meanwhile, a search and strike operation was conducted in a number of villages in the limits of the Badaber police station after the martyrdom of an assistant sub inspector. Over a dozen suspects were held during the Search operation conducted by police along with army personnel.

The police came under attack in a number of districts in KP in the last couple of days. One DSP and two ASIs were among those martyred in these attacks.
