Rs325,000 fine imposed on transporters

Rawalpindi: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema, transport authority has taken strict action against long route transporters for looting passengers with both hands. The District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) has fined Rs325,000 and confiscated 27 vehicles for looting public here on Tuesday.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema along with District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) Secretary Rashid Ali visited in different bus and wagon terminals and took strict action against looters.

The District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) Secretary Rashid Ali told ‘The News’ that action against transporters has been taken for collecting money in excess of fixed fares. For the violation, the transporters were fined Rs325,000 and 27 vehicles were impounded, he claimed.

He said that citizens should get tickets according to fare names. 50 per cent discount for disabled people and 60 per cent discount for people above 65 years of age has been ensured, Secretary DRTA said. “Eligible persons can get discounted tickets by showing ID card”, he assured.
