LAHORE: Nadeem Ashraf, member/commissioner (Punjab), National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) has taken suo-motu notice against a seminary teacher who allegedly molested a minor boy. According to a notification available with The News, the NCHR took action against seminary teacher Qari Abubakar Muavia, who allegedly molested a 12-year-old boy in Tandlianwala, Faisalabad.
It is pertinent to mention that a police inquiry was conducted for the attempted rape of a 12-year-old boy in Tandlianwala. The accused teacher had been declared acquitted as the prime and sole suspect nominated in the initial FIR on the mediation of a ‘Jirga/Panchayat’ which is a severe violation of the Supreme Court’s judgment. The NCHR had written a letter to the City Police Officer (CPO) of Faisalabad and termed the conciliation a violation of child rights. The letter further stated that devolve into the matter and furnish a report before April 8, 2024 for information and action by this Commission under Section 9 of the NCHR Act, 2012.
After intervention by religious scholar Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer, the father of the child had forgiven the rapist. The role of Allama Zaheer was criticized by several people on social media. Now, another case has been registered against the religious cleric Abubakar Muavia by Shahdra Police.
According to an FIR available with The News, the child had gone to a shop to get something for Sehri. When it got late, his father Tasleem Abbas started worrying. Abbas looked for him everywhere. When he was near the nearby graveyard of Jia Musa, he saw many people gathered around the religious cleric; it was there that he found his son crying. The boy claimed that he was abused by Muavia. Blood and mud stains could be seen on the boy’s clothes. A lot of people had gathered there and a call was made to the police emergency service (15). The accused was arrested, and an investigation started.
