A Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) team was attacked in District Central on Saturday during their operation against illegal constructions in Karachi. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.

Officials said the SBCA is taking action against illegal constructions in different parts of the city, resulting in the demolition of numerous buildings, including wedding halls. During the latest operation in District Central, unidentified individuals fired shots at the SBCA officials.

Despite the gunfire, the SBCA officials continued the operation and razed the unauthorised fourth floor of the targeted building. SBCA Director General Abdul Rasheed Solangi told the SSP Central to arrest the culprits. An FIR has been registered against the building owner and three other persons at the Rizvia Society police station on the complaint of the SBCA assistant director.

Solangi stressed the need for fearlessly taking action against illegal constructions, and commended the SBCA staff for their dedication and honesty. He assured them of full support in facing any challenges during their duties.

On the orders of Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, operations against illegal constructions are being conducted in different areas of the city. The SBCA’s demolition squad has razed four buildings in different areas, including Essa Nagri, Paposh Nagar and Gulberg.

Thirteen illegal portions have also been demolished in Saddar Town, Jamshed Town, Gulberg and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Solangi has been personally supervising the crackdown on illegal constructions. Ghani has directed the SBCA chief to ensure the eradication of all kinds of illegal constructions. He also stressed taking strict action against the SBCA officials involved in allowing illegal constructions.

The details of actions against illegal constructions include razing old balconies in the Soldier Bazaar and Civil Lines Quarters areas, demolishing marriage halls in Saddar Town and Gulbahar, razing the unauthorised third floor and portion walls in Gulbahar and Paposh Nagar, removing block masonry walls and RCC columns on unauthorised third floor in Federal B Area and Scheme 33.
