LAHORE
Mayo Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Amjad Shehzad has said in the hospital a diabetic clinic has been established and 700 patients are registered with this clinic. He said all the patients are provided free treatment including insulin injections.
According to a handout issued on Wednesday, he said the issue of shortage of insulin arose because the injections were sent to DTL for drug testing and report was awaited. He disclosed that DTL report is received on Wednesday. It is worth mentioning that this is a unique facility to the patients because it is very difficult to provide insulin to the outdoor patients but Mayo Hospital is providing this facility throughout the year.
Another important aspect is that no poor patient is refused insulin injection because the hospital is running a drug bank on donation basis and if a patient is recommended by our social medical office they all are provided the injections. More than 600 poor patients got the injection from drug bank during last 2 weeks, the MS said.
Dr Amjad Shehzad said as per the government policy all emergency and indoor patients were given insulin free of cost from hospital without any interruption. Now after DTL report is received, the insulin injections are available as per routine, he said.
