Multan PIBC doctors continue strike for demands
MULTAN: Doctors at the Pak-Italian Burn Center (PIBC) continued to protest against the resignation of senior faculty due to political interference by a PMLN ticket holder on Friday and demanded action to prevent similar incidents to maintain hospital discipline.
The strike continued for the second day in the burn unit Multan, work was stopped in the outdoor and operation theaters, patients faced difficulties, postgraduate doctors also announced solidarity with the resigned senior faculty.
Earlier, the senior faculty in the PIBC of Nishtar Medical University resigned three days ago, accusing the burn unit management of political interference. Since then the strike continued for the second day. President of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Prof Dr Masood Rauf Haraj said that the treatment of patients in the burn unit emergency is continuing despite strikes due to resignations in the outdoor and operation theaters.
Dr Haraj said that the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Minister of Health and the Health Administration should take notice of the problems of the only burn unit in South Punjab. Senior faculty member Professor Dr Waseem Rabbani, who resigned from the burn unit, said that the protest will continue until the executive director and senior registrar appointed against merit are removed from their positions.
