PESHAWAR: In line with directives from the provincial government and the Peshawar High Court, Special Price Magistrate Sher Fayaz Khan led a team in raids across various markets of the city on Sunday.

A statement said that the team conducted visits to Landi Arbab, Civil Quarters, Kohat Road, Ramdas Bazaar, and Nauthia bazaars of Peshawar Cantt, aiming to check any violations of the official list for various commodities during the holy month of Ramazan.

The raids focused on monitoring the prices and quality of essential commodities such as meat, poultry items, dairy products, vegetables, and fruits commonly consumed during Ramazan. Several shopkeepers were booked for violations of food laws, while others were arrested and taken to police stations for further legal procedures.

During the operations, the magistrate issued directives to the business community and stressed the need for selling items to the public at government-fixed rates.He ordered the display of price lists prominently in front of shops, and warned of strict action under relevant food laws for non-compliance. He also urged the general public and consumers to report any violations and assured swift response from the Food Department team. He said complaint cells had been established at the provincial headquarter of the Food Department, with PTCL and cell numbers for easy access.
