This letter refers to the news report ‘How high will power, gas rates go on IMF demand, asks Nawaz’ (March 19, 2024). If this news was published during the PTI’s tenure in power, it would have made more sense. The question is in what capacity did Nawaz Sharif chair a government meeting? He is a member of the National Assembly, which does not entitle him to sit in a provincial government meeting, in my view. Unless we strictly start to follow the proper protocols of governance, we will never achieve success in executive matters. Another baffling aspect of the PML-N supremo’s question about the rates of power and gas is the fact that his party is in the driver’s seat. His brother is PM and yet Nawaz Sharif is asking this question as though he represents the opposition. This sounds extraordinarily bizarre and may just be an attempt to play to the gallery. It would be advisable for the former PM to keep away from the domain of other family members.
